If you follow me on Instagram, you may be able to tell that I’m a fan of Lupita Nyong’o. This woman is fabulous. She’s intelligent, classy and GORGEOUS. She has shut down the red carpet at every award show and event she’s attended so far; and she hasn’t disappointed when it comes to her magazine features.
Everyone has been talking about Lupita’s photos in the Vogue Italia February 2014 issue. When I saw the images yesterday, all I could was say YASSSSS! She’s serving edginess, femininity, sophistication and Grace Jones! *snaps*
If she ever decides to stop acting, Lupita could definitely me a model. I CAN NOT WAIT to see what she wears on the red carpet for the Oscars. At the rate she and her stylist Micaela Erlanger are going, my guess is it’s going to be a show stopper!
Tika Sumpter covers the latest issue of Rolling Out Magazine. I was drawn to the paisley jumpsuit paired with the blue Giuseppe Zanotti booties. I absolutely love the look!
Yesterday, I posted a few pics Rihanna posted from her new Balmain Spring 2014 Campaign. She has graced us with more pictures from the campaign that will appear as ads starting in January.
Seriously, if bad girl Ri Ri ever decided to stop making music she could have a career as a model. Gorgeous!
Idris Elba covers GQ October 2013 issue. This man knows he can wear a suit!! In the October issue, he talks about being on The Wire and more. Check it out!
On his role as Stringer Bell on HBO’s The Wire:
“That really is more about the writing of The Wire than it is the performance. You know, Stringer Bell is a great character that was written. I happened to play him, but it could’ve been anybody playing that role.”
GQ: You really feel like anybody could’ve played Stringer?
“Listen, I think I brought Stringer to life my way, but The Wire isn’t a classic because of Stringer Bell. The Sopranos was a classic because of Tony Soprano.”
On finding out he was not the father of a boy he was calling his own:
“You know, the truth is—like, even admitting it, I’ll probably get laughed at for the rest of my life. But it is just tragic, and it happened.” He looks directly at me when he says this. “But I wasn’t knocked out. I stood right the fuck back up, and I ain’t aiming to take another punch in the face ever again. Do you understand what I’m saying? It happened to me. I moved on.”
In a paradoxical way, he says, it was freeing. “I’ve not been an angel in my life, either—do you know what I’m saying? So to a certain extent, what goes around comes around. But for me in the future, I’m about being comfortable. That’s it.”

I wouldn’t date older men, but if I ever crossed paths with Idris Elba, I’d make an exception! *swoon*
The diva Kerry Washington covers the October 2013 issue of Glamour. She looks gorgeous wearing pieces from Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, Christian Louboutin and more! Check out photos from her cover shoot and a few excerpts from her interview with Cindy Leive. If you’re a Scandal fan, check out the season 3 teaser at the bottom of this post. It all goes down October 3rd!!!
Derss: Dior
CL: [Laughs.] I want to ask about fashion too. At what point did it start to be fun, or is it still kind of something you do because it’s part of the job?
KW: It started out as, like, Good-Student Kerry. OK, I’m going to admit this: There were a couple of actresses whom I felt were having the upper hand careerwise—because they knew how to work that red carpet. I was like, “I’m missing a really important tool. If I am the CEO of the Kerry Washington Corporation, my marketing department is really lax.” So I sort of developed a new character: Red-Carpet Kerry.
And I researched her like any other character. I actually called Tracee Ellis Ross [the actress and Diana Ross’s daughter], who’s a good friend, and literally asked, “How do you pronounce Hermès?” Red-Carpet Kerry needed to know.
Bodysuit, scarf, Louis Vuitton; diamond ring, Van Cleef & Arpels; bag, Prada; pumps, Jimmy Choo
CL: I love the whole idea of “gladiators” [Olivia’s term for her employees and, now, what fans of the show call themselves.] So who are your gladiators?
KW: My closest girlfriends from college, and I’m really close to the girls on the show. It’s a sisterhood.… That’s the big thing that really differentiates me from Olivia: She compartmentalizes her relationships. I really try to let my friends into all of my life. They know that Red-Carpet Kerry is a version of Kerry, and they know that DNC Speaker Kerry is me.
CL: OK, so relationships. In interview after interview, you always use the same phrase: “I don’t talk about my personal life.” I’m curious about the discipline that it requires to be so tight-lipped.
KW: I learned through experience that it doesn’t work for me to talk about my personal life. I’ve had earlier times in my career when I did talk about it. I was on the cover of a bridal magazine [InStyle Weddings, in 2005, when Washington was engaged to actor David Moscow]. But I couldn’t just turn around and say, “I only want to talk about the good stuff, but not the bad stuff.” So I just thought, “OK, no more.”
CL: You even managed to get married in June without anyone knowing.
KW: Absolutely! I’m walking around in the world with my ring. And when people say congratulations, I say thank you. But I’m going to continue to not talk about it and just let it unfold.

The October 2013 issue of Glamour hits newsstands September 10th.
Colin Kaepernick was one of two NFL quarterbacks featured in the September issue of GQ. In the September issue, along with posing in looks featuring Louis Vuitton, Nike, Micheal Kors, Gucci, En Noir and more, he talks about his upbringing and how he mastered the game of football.
Check out pics and an excerpt from his feature below. Click HERE to read the entire feature by Andrew Corsello.
Sweater by Michael Kors. Sweatpants by Michael Bastian. Tights (beneath) by Nike Pro Combat. Watch by Montblanc
Pants by En noir. Shorts (beneath) by Nike Pro Combat. Sneakers and gloves by Nike.
Jacket by Gucci. Hoodie by Balmain. Tank top by T by Alexander Wang. Watch by Montblanc. Uniform by NFL Nike Elite 51 Uniform.
In other words, Kaepernick is a guy who’s earned the right to be taken at face value. He doesn’t want to be an icon, and his tats aren’t ghetto or anti-authoritarian or disrespecting or black. They don’t mean anything other than what they literally say. (God is good!) He dislikes and distrusts fame—it’s never been about “the grades,” the accolades—and certainly doesn’t want to deploy it in any way. He’s a devout Christian who wants his god “to shine through” everything he does. But he’s not looking to “signify” anything at this point in his life, and to his credit, he doesn’t. He just is. And what he is, and wants to be seen as now, is… Well, Colin Kaepernick said it simplest and best in a letter he wrote to himself back in the fourth grade:
“I hope I go to a good college in football, then go to the pros and play on the niners or the packers even if they aren’t good in seven years.”
Cardigan by Levi’s Made & Crafted. T-shirt by Nike. Shorts by Nike Pro Combat. Watch by Rolex.
Tank top by Nike. Coat (with hood) by Black Sail by Nautica.
Jacket, $4,600 by Louis Vuitton. Pants, $80 by Nike. Shorts (beneath), $30 by Nike Pro Combat.
If you feel like you’re having déjà vu it’s because Kaepernick was featured on the blog last month for his feature in ESPN Body Issue.
The second quarterback be featured is RGIII. Now I know I probably should have featured him since I am a Redskins fan (Hail to the Redskins), but I am not feeling his GQ photos at all! I am not sure if the plaits have something to do with it. I know I know…his hair is in cornrows now (I have no idea why that was BREAKING NEWS for the local media) but something just doesn’t scream GQ! But hey what do I know?? Click HERE to see the RGIII feature.
In response to the “not-guilty” verdict in the George Zimmerman Trial, EBONY Magazine is dedicating its September issue to Trayvon Martin. The magazine created four covers including: Trayvon’s parents and his brother, Jahvaris Fulton; Spike Lee and his son, Jackson; Dwyane Wade and his sons Zaire and Zion; and Boris Kodjoe with his son Nicolas.
EBONY revealed on its Facebook page:
“Our groundbreaking September 2013 issue will explore concerns around racial bias, how to find solutions for those concerns and how to heal and move forward. We are honored to have Trayvon’s parents and his brother, Jahvaris Fulton, grace the cover of our subscribers’ issue. #justicefortrayvon“
The San Francisco 49ers quarterback was one of many athletes to strip down for ESPN The Magazine Body Issue. In the issue, Kaepernick addresses not looking like the standard NFL quarterback:
I don’t want to be the standard image. I don’t want to be that perfect mold of, ‘This is what every quarterback before you looked like. This is what you are supposed to look like.’ One of the biggest things when I first started playing was, ‘Oh, you have tattoos, you don’t dress the same way most quarterbacks do.’ To me, as long as I go out and play well, it shouldn’t be a problem of how I dress, or whether I have tattoos or not, or whether I’m rockin’ a snapback or beanie. To me, that’s just part of who I am.
Other athletes featured in the body issue include John Wall, Vernon Davis, Kenneth Faried, Sydney Leroux, Kerri Walsh Jennings and more! Click HERE to view more pictures and athlete interviews.
