‘Light Girls’ Documentary Shows The Other Side of Colorism
As a follow up to his 2011 Dark Girls documentary, director Bill Dukes will debut Light Girls this Monday on OWN. Similar to Dark Girls, Light Girls explores skin color from historical, sociological and psychological perspectives. The film sheds light on the experiences of light skin women, stereotypes associated with lighter skin and the hashtags #teamlightskin versus #teamdarkskin that are popular on social media.
Check out a few clips from the documentary below which features interviews from Raven Symoné, Kym Whitley, Essence Atkins, Chante Moore, Keke Wyatt and more:
I love that these documentaries are coming out. There is pain and hurt on both side of our color spectrum as black women and it needs healing.
